Pressure pumps boost weak municipal pressure, or pump water from a JoJo tank, rainwater tank or borehole storage tank to the house and garden. Choose from compact peripheral pumps (QB60, QB70, QB80), CPM centrifugal pumps, self-priming jet pumps and twin-impeller 2CPM pumps from 0.37kW to 2.2kW, from R1,523. Add a pressure tank and pressure switch, or buy a ready-made booster pump combo.

QB60 / QB70 / QB80 peripheral pumps (0.37–0.75kW): the budget choice for a flat, cottage or a house with one or two bathrooms. High pressure, modest flow, and they must be fed from a tank that stands at or above the pump.CPM centrifugal pumps (0.55–1.1kW): more flow for 2–3 bathroom homes and garden irrigation. Also need a flooded suction (tank outlet above the pump inlet).Self-priming jet pumps (0.6–1.1kW): use these when the pump must sit above the water, for example an underground tank, a dam or a shallow well. They lift water from up to about 8 metres.2CPM twin-impeller pumps (1.1–2.2kW): for large homes, guesthouses, multiple storeys and sprinkler systems where one pump must feed many outlets at once.As a rule of thumb: 0.37kW for one bathroom, 0.55–0.75kW for two to three bathrooms, 1.1kW and up for four bathrooms or irrigation. If you want the pump to hold the same pressure whether one tap or five are open, look at a VSD booster pump instead.
Can I connect a pressure pump straight to the municipal line? No. Most municipalities don’t allow pumping directly off the mains and it can damage the pump when supply drops. Feed the pump from a storage tank with a ball valve, which also gives you water during outages. What is the difference between a pressure pump and a booster pump?Nothing in the pump itself. “Booster pump” usually means a pressure pump sold as a complete set with a pressure switch and tank or a flow switch. Our booster pumps category lists the complete sets. Why does my pump start and stop every few seconds?Short-cycling is usually a pressure tank that is too small, has lost its air pre-charge, or a pressure switch set too close. A 50L–100L tank fixes most cases.Do you deliver outside Pretoria?Yes, we courier pumps across South Africa. Pay securely by card, EFT or PayFast.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose a pressure pump?

Choose by the flow you need (number of taps open at the same time) and the pressure you want, normally 2.5 to 3.5 bar for a home. Add the height from the pump to the highest tap. Most homes use 0.75 kW to 1.1 kW.

Can a pressure pump run during load shedding?

Yes, if it is connected to an inverter or backup power. A VSD or permanent magnet pump uses much less power and is the best choice for solar and inverter systems.

Why does my pressure pump keep switching on and off?

Usually a flat or failed pressure tank bladder, a leaking non-return valve or a small leak in the plumbing. Check the tank air pressure first; it should be about 0.2 bar below the pump cut-in pressure.

How to choose a pressure pump

Three things decide the right pump: where the water comes from, how many taps run at once, and how much pressure you want.

  • Tank or JoJo at ground level: a centrifugal pump such as the CPM range works well.
  • Water below the pump (a well, sump or low tank): choose a self-priming jet pump, which can draw water up from a few metres below.
  • High pressure for double-storey homes or long garden lines: a twin-stage pump gives more head.

A 0.37kW to 0.75kW pump suits most homes with one to three bathrooms. Larger houses, irrigation or several showers at once need 1.1kW or more.

Switching the pump on and off

Every pressure pump needs a control. An automatic flow controller is compact and quick to fit. A pressure switch with a pressure tank is very robust and reduces how often the pump starts. Most of our booster pump combos come pre-assembled with an automatic flow controller, wiring and plug, ready to connect.
