Submersible borehole pumps from 3″ to 10″ and 0.18kW up to 110kW: complete pump-and-motor sets, pump ends, borehole motors, control boxes and solar borehole pumps for homes, smallholdings, farms and irrigation. You need four numbers from the borehole: the yield (litres per hour the driller’s test gave you), the pumping water level (how deep the water sits while pumping), the installation depth, and how high and how far the water must go after it reaches the surface.Flow: never choose a pump that delivers more than the borehole yield. If the yield is 1,500 l/h, choose a pump around 1,000–1,200 l/h so it never runs the hole dry.Head: add the pumping water level, the height from ground to the top of your tank, friction in the pipe and any pressure you want at the end. That total is the head you look up on the pump curve.Power: small homes and smallholdings use 0.37–1.1kW 220V sets; farms and irrigation run 1.5kW–7.5kW and up on 380V.Cable: long drops need thicker cable. Use our pump cable sizing chart to pick the right mm² for the depth.Every borehole pump should be installed with a control box, dry-run protection such as the NIST Motorscope, a non-return valve and a stainless safety rope. If you are not sure, send us the driller’s report and we will do the sizing for you at no charge.
What is the difference between a 3″, 4″ and 6″ borehole pump?The number is the pump diameter and tells you which casing it fits. 4″ pumps suit most domestic 110–140mm boreholes. 3″ pumps are for narrow or old casings, and 6″ to 10″ pumps are for high-yield agricultural and municipal boreholes.Do you sell the pump and motor separately?Yes. You can buy complete sets, or a pump end and motor separately if you are replacing only one part. 4″ motors follow the NEMA standard, so pump ends and motors from different brands usually fit together.Can I run a borehole pump on solar?Yes. We stock DC solar borehole pumps that run directly off panels, and VSD controllers that run a standard AC pump from a solar array. Frequently asked questions

How do I choose the right borehole pump?

You need four things: the borehole diameter, the tested yield (litres per hour the hole can deliver), the depth you will install the pump at, and the height and distance to your tank. The pump must deliver less than the yield and enough head to reach the tank.

What is the difference between a 3", 4" and 6" borehole pump?

The size is the pump diameter. A 4" pump needs a borehole of at least 100 mm inside diameter and suits most homes and farms. 3" pumps fit narrow holes; 6" and larger pumps are for high-yield boreholes, irrigation and commercial supply.

Do I need a borehole controller?

Yes. A controller or control box starts the pump and protects it against dry running, overload and voltage problems, which are the main reasons borehole pumps burn out.

How to size a borehole pump

You need three numbers from your driller's report:

  • Borehole diameter: a 4" pump needs at least 100mm (4") casing, and a 6" pump needs 150mm.
  • Total head: the water level while pumping, plus how high the water must go above ground (to a tank on a stand, for example), plus friction in the pipe.
  • Yield: how many litres per hour the borehole can safely deliver. Never choose a pump that pumps more than the yield, or the borehole will run dry.

The "max head" in each pump's name is the head at zero flow. Choose a pump that delivers your flow at your total head, which usually means a max head about 20–30% higher than your total head.

Which size of pump?

  • 3" pumps – narrow boreholes, with complete 220V sets from 0.18kW to 1.5kW
  • 4" pumps – homes, gardens and smallholdings, 0.25kW to 7.5kW
  • 6" pumps – farms, irrigation and estates, 5.5kW to 37kW
  • 8" and 10" pumps – high-volume irrigation, mines and municipal supply, up to 110kW
  • Solar borehole pumps – off-grid water with no electricity bill
