Control boxes, protection panels and intelligent controllers for 3", 4", 6" and 8" borehole pumps – plus the solar controllers that run borehole pumps straight from solar panels.

Which borehole controller do I need? Answer two questions: what power does my site have (220V single phase, 380V three phase, 525V, or solar panels) and how big is my pump motor (kW – it is on the motor label and in the pump name). Then pick from the types below.

1. MA Analogue Control Box – 220V single phase, 0.25–2.2kW (3" & 4" pumps), from R270. The basic starter: start capacitor, on/off switch and overload. It does not switch the pump off if the borehole runs dry.
2. 20Y Intelligent Controller – 220V single phase, 0.37–2.2kW, R2,220. Dry-run protection, over/under-voltage, overload, automatic restart and a digital display. The best choice for most homes and for low-yield boreholes.
3. Y1 Digital Protection Panel – 380V three phase, 0.37–4kW or 1.1–7.5kW, R2,850. Protects three-phase pumps against dry running, phase loss, phase imbalance, overload and bad voltage.
4. 30Y Intelligent Controller – 380V three phase, 5.5–15kW, R5,050. Heavy-duty protection controller for bigger 4" and 6" pumps.
5. 30A Intelligent Controller – 380V three phase, 18.5–30kW, R7,930. Protection controller for large 6" and 8" pumps.
6. Variable Speed Drive (VSD) – 220V, 380V or 525V, 0.75kW up to 110kW. Soft-starts the motor and adjusts pump speed to demand (constant pressure), saving power and reducing wear. Needed for 220V three-phase motors and recommended for 525V and large pumps. See our VSD range.
7. TGP Hybrid Solar Inverter – solar panels with Eskom/generator backup, for 0.75–2.2kW TGP brushless solar motors, R7,570. Runs the pump from 3–9 solar panels and switches to AC power when the sun is weak.
8. 3HR Solar Pump Controllers – solar panels, for 3HR / 3HRI / SQB solar pumps, from R4,350. Matched controller for the 3HR helical-rotor solar pumps, with optional tank-full and well-dry probes.
9. EBH-3 Solar Pump Inverter – solar panels, 380V three-phase output, 4–22kW, from R7,480. Runs a normal 380V three-phase borehole pump on solar – no Eskom needed during the day. See solar inverters.

Quick rules: always match the controller’s kW rating to your motor (never smaller). If the borehole can run dry, choose a controller with dry-run protection (20Y, Y1, 30Y, 30A or a VSD) – the basic MA box will let the pump burn out. For motors bigger than 30kW use a VSD or a soft-starter/star-delta panel. For solar, each solar controller’s product page tells you exactly how many solar panels you need.
