4SD or 4ST?

The 4SD range covers most household and farm boreholes, from a single home up to irrigation. The 4ST range is built for low flow at very high head, for deep boreholes with a low yield. In a model name such as 4SD16/18, the number before the slash is the pump's nominal flow in m³/h and the number after it is the number of stages: more stages give more head.

The "max head" in the name is at zero flow. At your working flow the pump delivers less, so choose one with a max head about 20–30% above your total lift (the water level while pumping, plus the height to your tank, plus pipe friction).

Single-phase, three-phase or solar?

Most homes use a 220V single-phase pump with a control box. Three-phase motors can run from a VSD, which gives soft starting and constant pressure and can protect the pump against dry running. For off-grid homes, see our solar borehole pumps, and for replacement motors see borehole motors.
